Update: Sparky Anderson Dead at 76

Legendary baseball manager Sparky Anderson died today in Thousand Oaks, CA, from complications of dementia.

The 76 year-old skipper won three World Series (1975, 1976 and 1984) and ranks sixth on the all-time wins list.

However, few people know that the birth of his Hall of Fame career came right here at Troy. 

Anderson grew up adjacent to the old Bovard Field and was the bat boy on the 1948 USC baseball squad, which won the first of the Trojans now 12 national championships.
