This is the time of year when the pre-season football magazines--such as Lindy's, Athlon, Sporting News, Phil Steele et al--start hitting the newsstands, complete with their team rankings and All-American picks.
Although Lindy's won't be on sale for a few more weeks, the publication did release its pre-season lists. USC is ranked 12th nationally (tops in the Pac-10) and Kristofer O'Dowd is named a second team All-American.
Alabama, by the way, is picked by Lindy's to repeat as national champion, with Boise State ranked second. The only other Pac-10 team that is ranked is Oregon, at No. 15.
Several of the major online sports sites have released their early ranking projections, as well. USC is ranked 15th by ESPN.com and CBSSports.com and 20th by SI.com. Like Lindy's, each of these sites has Alabama No. 1 and Boise State second.
