More from Howard Jones Field and Swim with Mike

- Worth mentioning again was the fantastic performance by Matt Barkley. The sophomore completed 70 percent of his passes (21-30) for 291 yards and five touchdowns with zero interceptions. Barkley again drew praise from his head coach, Lane Kiffin, after the scrimmage concluded.

- Last week, Kiffin encouraged his receiving corps to match the "championship" level of intensity that Ronald Johnson had demonstrated so far during camp. They did a nice job of responding today, with several wideouts making receptions from both quarterbacks throughout the day. Four different receivers caught Barkley's five touchdown tosses on the day.

- Of the receivers, Brice Butler finished with six grabs for 77 yards (both team highs) and a touchdown. Travon Patterson and Stanley Havili both had four catches apiece, going for 54 and 44 yards, respectively.

- T.J. Bryant took a step toward earning back his number 1 jersey by diving to intercept a short tipped pass for the only turnover on the day. Bryant also recorded a pair of tackles to go along with his pick.

- Nick Perry also led the way defensively, helping stifle the Trojans offensive attack with 5 tackles, four of which went for a loss, including three sacks.

- DaJohn Harris recorded a red zone sack that proved to be a key play in stopping the offense, which was at the 2-yard line, from scoring.

- Although the Trojans running attack was mostly held in check for the day, Allen Bradford and C.J. Gable enjoyed solid performances. Gable racked up 41 yards on 11 carries (tied for the team-high for attempts) and Bradford went for 45 yards on seven carries.

- The Trojan Marching Band came into Howard Jones Field and played the requisite "Conquest" and "Fight On" tunes just as the team began its scrimmage portion of the practice. The band then marched over to McDonald's Swim Stadium for Swim with Mike.

- Unlike last week's scrimmage, which featured heavy scoring on the first couple drives, the offenses took a little more time to get in rhythm and find paydirt.

- Former Trojans in attendance included Zach Wilson, Darryl Knight, Mike Mooney and Michael Hayes.

- Today's scrimmage came with its expected nicks, with Curtis McNeal (back), Johnson (arm) and Dillon Baxter (knee) suffering minor bruises that forced them to sit out midway through.
