Current Chicago Bear defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli, who was the
Detroit Lions' head coach from 2006 to 2008, visited USC practice last
Thursday and liked what he saw.
He had an interesting perspective because he not only was the Trojans' defensive line coach in the 1995 Rose Bowl championship season, but he is the father-in-law of new USC linebackers coach Joe Barry. Barry, who played at USC in 1992 and 1993, is married to Marinelli's daughter, Chris.
"Rod absolutely loved watching practice on Thursday," said Barry. "He was excited about what he saw. He loved our tempo. He said it was like an NFL practice, with the tempo and the speed.
"He also said he thinks we have a chance to be a really good team."
