Four Trojan track greats will be inducted into the USC/UCLA Dual Meet Hall of Fame next Tuesday (April 27) at 11 a.m. in a ceremony at UCLA's J.D. Morgan Center in conjunction with a press conference promoting the May 1 USC-UCLA dual meet in Westwood.
The 2010 Trojan inductees: hurdler Earl McCullough, distance runner Louie Zamperini, mid-distance runner Leslie Noll and sprinter Bryan Krill. McCullough, you'll remember, also was a star receiver for the Trojans and in the NFL.
Each inductee turned in a stellar performance in the fabled crosstown dual meet.
UCLA's inductees this year are pole vaulters Mike Tully and Chelsea Johnson, hurdler Joanna Hayes, quartermiler Steve Lewis and shot putter Dave Laut.
Trojans inducted into last year's inaugural class were pole vaulter Bob Seagren, hurdlers Virginia Powell and Natasha Danvers and sprinters Willie Deckard and James Sanford.

As I recall (oh gosh, I'm older than I thought)Earl McCullough was also Rookie of the Year in the NFL. I believe that he was, at one time, the world record holder in the 120 yard hurdles (13.6) while he was at USC, and also ran the lead on USC's world record holding 4x110 yard relay team, along with Fred Kuller, OJ Simpson, and Lennox Miller (38.6s). All of the track events were held at the coliseum and on (I believe) a dirt track (or was it "crushed brick"). Verne Wolf had awesome teams then.
Louis Zamperini was more than a track star, he was also a WW2 hero and prisoner of war under terrifying conditions. He has an autobiography entitled "Devil at My Heels" that is well worth the time to obtain and read. The world needs more people like him.
As a track and football fan, it sure would've been nice to be able to see the dual meet AND the spring game on May 1. Now, I will have to skip out on one because of the scheduling conflict, which could've easily been rectified by having a later scrimmage.
