On a hot and muggy day at Howard Jones Field, USC played its second intrasquad scrimmage of the spring. As the band could be heard playing from the Swim with Mike fundraiser at the neighboring McDonald's Swim Stadium, many fans also caught the action from Swim's lunch tables set up along the sideline. RipsIt also captured the sights and sounds of the day - here are a few observations from our perspective...
- Matt Barkley accounted for all five touchdowns on the day, each one through the air (including a pair to Kyle Prater). He finished with a very efficient 21-of-30 passing for 291 yards.
- Having moved to the tight end position from wide receiver this spring, Jordan Cameron looked comfortable with his reassignment. The senior BYU transfer caught five passes for 72 yards, including a 12- yard grab in the back right corner of the end zone.
- The highlight play of the day award went to Prater, who made a sensational one-handed catch as he was running down the far sideline, and then finished the play by getting to the pylon for the 40-yard score.
- After practice, head coach Lane Kiffin commended the play of the front seven on defense, which did a good job shutting down the run. He liked Barkley's performance. He also praised the offensive line, which worked hard for both offensive squads (only seven linemen were available for the scrimmage). But he said that the running game needed to step up.
