Fighting on: Matt Barkley, Brett Kan, John Manoogian, Mitch Mustain

Spring expectations for Matt Barkley, who has a year of starting experience under his belt...
"Obviously, we have a huge advantage as a new staff having very similar of an offense that he's used to. Our goal is for him to be a great decision maker. Obviously, he's an incredible talent, but what we're trying to do is try to be better in our touchdown-to-interception ratio. It's something we're going to work on extremely hard -- to not make that critical error at the quarterback position."

Spring expectations for senior Mitch Mustain...
"What a tremendous opportunity Mitch has to create a lasting memory in his senior year and make it his best year in college. Mitch is a quarterback that continues to progress each season, and he definitely has the tools, which I'm excited about. He's a guy that at some point in time is going to be called on to help out, and he has to be ready. We just want to keep him progressing at quarterback."

Only two scholarship quarterbacks are currently on the roster -- is that a good or bad thing?
"It's a very good thing. What a great opportunity for a young quarterback in Matt Barkley to progress and a guy in Mitch who had limited reps last year found himself getting more and more. What an opportunity for both guys to get a lot of needed reps this spring. They're excited about that, and they'll probably be tired at the end of it, but that's not a bad thing. We've got to get Matt and Mitch ready for next season."

Most excited about...
"It's a position group that is extremely talented, but what I'm excited about is there's room for improvement. I'm fortunate as a coach to be coaching two guys who have these tools and then try to bring them along so they don't make the same mistakes they made last year. There's such a room for improvement to make them better, and that's what I'm really excited about. You can see some things that need to be done to make two guys who are very talented football players better."
