Spring expectations for senior defensive tackle Christian Tupou...
"I love Christian. He has great leadership qualities and toughness, and I really see Christian's relentless work ethic. He's an excellent player for us."

Expectations for nose tackle Jurrell Casey this spring...
"He needs to prove that he can be a dominant player. He's shown flashes of signs of being a really good player, but I want to see him do it every down and just become a dominant defensive player."

On the crop of young defensive ends...
"I like the competition, I like Nick Perry, Armond Armstead. Everybody has a little uniqueness to them, and I need to find out what everyone does well, and then put them in a position to do it. We always use a six-man rotation -- three guys inside and three guys outside -- so it should be interesting to see who steps up."

Most excited about...

"I want to see who's going to be the toughest guy out there and who's going to compete the hardest on a daily basis."
