Long toss

Malcolm Smith did something this morning that head strength and conditioning coach Aaron Ausmus had never seen before.

In offseason testing during this morning's workout, the senior linebacker launched an 11-pound medicine ball 71.5 feet downfield in the overhead toss exercise, a stunning mark that easily put him as the top Trojan and set him above anything Ausmus had ever witnessed.

"That's huge, that's huge," Ausmus said, seemingly still in disbelief of Smith's toss.

Smith's 71.5-foot toss gives him the title among football players for the second straight year after a 70-foot mark last spring.

Linebacker Michael Morgan goes through overhead medicine ball toss testing this morning. Fellow linebacker Malcolm Smith had the best mark this morning with a 71.5-foot throw.
