Phone it in

RipsIt reader Darren Fraser sent in this interesting question about the coaches' phone calls to prospects during the past few days: "Aren't the last two days a quiet period and we aren't allowed to talk to recruits?"

Though it's technically an NCAA-mandated "dead period" this week, coaches around the country are permitted an unlimited number of phone calls to recruits from 7 a.m. on Monday through 7 a.m. on Friday. The "dead period" moniker simply refers to zero face-to-face contact allowed during this time.

During much of the year, coaches are permitted just one phone call per week to a recruit, so the days surrounding Signing Day are a communication jackpot for the staffers.

I reside in west palm beach, fl, about a 45 minute ride east of pahokee/bell glades. i am wondering if coach kiff' will ever be able to mend the fence torn down by a comment made while he was at tenn. there are a lot of talent coming out of that area and i'd like to see some of it wearing cardinal and gold. wishful thinking? i hope not because i can't stand dem gators.
