Heritage Hall was the site of an old-fashioned Western duel this morning.Well, something like that.
Coaches found themselves in a usual position -- in the War Room -- to watch player evaluation tapes, which also revealed offseason testing results such as sprint times and jump measurements. After noticing the standing vertical jump marks, the staffers started to wonder if they could do better than some of the players.
Most were probably joking, but running backs coach Todd McNair and wide receivers coach John Morton apparently were not. With the other coaches watching on in amusement, the two staffers engaged in lighthearted duel, calling for the vertical jump testing device to be brought up to the football office.
The 40-year-old Morton, a former wideout in the CFL, went first and jumped 26 inches before McNair, a former running back and special teams standout who enjoyed an eight-year NFL career, soared up 31.5 inches. The quality mark was made even more impressive when considering McNair tore his ACL two years ago and he's, um, 44.
"I could've jumped higher," a beaming McNair said, oozing nonchalance.
