The marathon recovery for Stafon Johnson is entering a key stage over the next month.Johnson, who suffered a devastating throat injury while weightlifting on Sept. 28, has returned to playing shape and leaves Saturday for Mobile, Ala., where he'll participate in the Senior Bowl, the annual pre-Draft showcase. The week's practices and Jan. 30's game in front of NFL coaches, scouts and owners -- in addition to the NFL Combine next month -- will go a long way toward determining Johnson's stock for April's NFL Draft.
"I'm feeling great," Johnson, who stopped by Heritage Hall this morning, said, talking with a stronger whisper now. "Ready to go."
Johnson, who hasn't played in a game since Sept. 26 against Washington State, said NFL projections currently forecast him as a third-round selection. But he said he's hoping to shoot up the draft board with his performance at the Senior Bowl next week and Combine in a month.
