Bolt the tables and chairs. Let's not have a melee like how Cincy Bearcats football players reacted to Brian Kelly.

You mean former Coach Pete Carroll.

i got no problem with pete leaving for the NFL....if he was going to another program that's another story. we'll be fine. let's all wish him well and hope mike can hire another winner

Have to admit...I was crushed when I heard the news and reading the posts above of venting and frustration makes me sad....it's the typical reaction of people when someone dies. They're in shock at first, sad, then bitter... But Pete's not dead -- he's just moving on. They made an offer he couldn't refuse. He has his life to live and so do we. We must live it through ourselves and not through others. Pete, I wish you and your family success. Thanks for all you've taught us and hopefully we'll keep with us what we've learned and be the best we can be --- A loyal Trojan fan from Fresno....

Why did Mike Garrett let Pete walk? I have not heard of any attempts to keep him. Did he try, or is his ego too big for that? Oregon State seems to be more proactive than SC right now in keeping their guy. I just hope we hire a young, aggressive coach who is willing to recruit.

I am left with the words from the man himself, spoken during an interview with Ben on 8/28/07 in which he said that he never wanted to leave USC: "It's come up every year for six years now," said Carroll (about the NFL rumors). "I don't know how many times I have to say it: I'm not going anywhere." 'Nuff said. Farewell, Pete. Thanks for the last nine years. Now it's time for USC and the true Trojan Family to move on.

I have been a big supporter of Pete Carroll’s and continue to be, but I cannot get over how PC choose to leave. Pete mentioned to the LA Times this morning, there is never a good time to leave but there should be a bit more of common courtesy about the timing.

Pete has built the USC program back to national prominence and has provided the alumni & fan base much to cheer about, but to leave 3 weeks prior to national letter of intent day and behind the cloak of suspicion isn’t the way Pete Carroll should say good bye. Pete Carroll has been a blessing and I just wish the transition would have been conducted in a manner where we could all wish him well & good luck.

Know one should be upset about PC taking advantage of a tremendous offer but he has been the face of USC Football for nine years and it’s disappointing for him to leave when the lights are out & everyone is sleeping.

Hopefully after nine years he feels an affinity to USC, I realize coaching is a business but there is a lot of people affected by decisions made and I believe both USC & Pete Carroll received more than expected from the last nine years.

Lastly, Good luck PC thanks for the memories! Just wish the “good bye” could have been different.

Ben,

REALLY? That's all you have to post? So much for being our inside guy

Dont worry the seachickens will ALWAYS suck.I can understand going to the NFL but at least go to a decent team.Seattle getting a new coach is like the junkyard getting a new night watchman.Have fun pete, You couldnt pay me enough to move to washington.I am sure you can win with a brokendown QB and no running game. I hope you choke on your starbucks Traitor.

He's always going to be 1Pete to me. Peaked in 03-04. Let's be smart and hire Les Miles and get a real dynasty started. At least then I wont have to see another let down loss in opening game of the pac 10. Les Miles the riverboat gambler for HC!!!

At least he took the candy ass Bates with him. Nice playcalling this year schmuck.

Suggestion:
New Head Coach Mike Leach. Talk about offense! USC can draw the talent Tech could not. You would be unstoppable.

Just bought me a CJ Gable jersey! Heard it here first CJ for Heisman. Out of the doghouse and into the starting lineup. Lets go get this CJ!!! God has spoken.

Ben

Your blog sucks now. Hugest story in like 5 years for SC and you write a measley 3 lines? Go get a real job now

The admin and alums now have a real job on their hands, continuing the Carroll legacy, don't fret, there is so many good coaches available it will all come together.
This is very good in one sense, the kids that rode the bench for the last two years will get some impartiality in spring training.

Wonder how the Prodigal Son(MB)is feeling right about now. New Coaches, new system! who will be the QB next year???

The writing was on the wall this year, we just chose not to read it. Here's the winning formula: Jack Del Rio/Norm Chow. Jack on D, Norm on O, pay 'em both the same(alot) and end up with the most high flying, smashmouth offense, and scrappy butt kicking defense in the country! C'mon back guys!!

Hey Spud, why don't you give Ben a chance to go to the meeting and get some info before you start criticizing? Him posting that Coach Carroll is leading a meeting means we will hear more information soon. Calm down!

Ben: Thank you for all the timely and interesting information you have brought us everyday for several wonderful seasons. I just sent in our check to the Touchdown Club, which was a nice idea someone had to raise a little money for the Athletic Program. Only wish the tab had been bigger, meaning more touchdowns. Please let Pete know my wife and I--grads since 1950--appreciate all he did for the Team, USC, and the Neighborhood. Fight On!

hey kim, how about bens amazing reporting this past weekend? lots of info there. more of the subjective bull shit he wrote after usc´s losses this year

Spud, I can only speak for myself, but I appreciate Ben waiting for Coach Carroll to OFFICIALLY announce leaving before actually reporting on it. The last thing I needed this weekend was more reports of RUMORS. Now that it's official and the players have heard it straight from Pete, Ben is reporting on it.

Kim,
With all due respect, I also agree with most everyone else on Ben's lack saying a single word this weekend. A journalist REPORTS on the story. Don't want to call him a journalist? Fine, a BLOGGER reports and/or mentions the story. This was perhaps the most important story for USC Football in the past nine years and Ben just sat there all weekend. He could have said a simple, "the LA Times is reporting" or "there is a team meeting to discuss recent events on Monday" but it was crickets. I have already said it before, Ben does a GREAT, GREAT job all season long. I have met Ben before he is a decent guy, but on this... it really was ridiculous not to have anything up on his blog about USC Football. I can appreciate him not speculating like every other media outlet, and I can appreciate not chasing down Carroll for a statement but not putting up a single word on the subject? C'mon!
