I got an answer to my question about why the Emerald Bowl logo is red. The game is sponsored by Emerald Nuts. Per Donna Samelson, Manager Comsumer Affairs at Diamond Foods, "Emerald is a Diamond Foods product; the red logo goes along with the red logo for Diamond of California products."
