As you might've heard, the initial BCS rankings came out on Sunday, with USC being slotted in the No. 7 slot.

And guess what?

The news hasn't affected things in Heritage Hall, as the world keeps spinning, the film keeps rolling and the game plan keeps coming together. After all, it's Week 7 and not Week 14, so the BCS rankings serve absolutely no purpose right now besides provide fodder for SportsCenter, radio talk shows and Twitter.

The Trojans aren't making a big deal about the BCS because the BCS doesn't mean a thing at this point of the season. So if the latest BCS news has gotten you worked up, take a deep breath and realize that it's still October and six games are left to be played.

And check back on Dec. 6, when the BCS rankings will actually have an impact on the Trojan football machine.

Well stated! Thank you.

Good! Carroll should be excising the entire sports sections from all the newspapers that get anywhere near the players ;-) Let the pundits and fans talk to themselves; the polls and editorials are meaningless sideline chatter. Take care of the next game . . . every week . . . on the field . . . and the rest will take care of itself! This week it's Beat the Beavers!!

This is the same computer who puts Texas at #6!
Iowa #3 - Cincinnati #4 - Boise State #5!!!! Go figure! FIGHT ON! Beat the beavers!!!

Well said, John!
