Thoughts from Monday's practice, through the eyes of USCRipsIt...

- On a warm late-October afternoon, the Trojans sprinted through a quick helmets-only workout on Cromwell Field, where they could get accustomed to the same artificial FieldTurf they'll see on Saturday at Autzen Stadium.

- Tight end Anthony McCoy, who suffered a sprained ankle in Saturday's game, sat out of practice with a protective boot on his right ankle. Coach Carroll did not give a timetable for his return but said Rhett Ellison would start in McCoy's place on Saturday if he's not ready to go.

- After sitting out more than a week to nurse a dislocated shoulder, fullback Stanley Havili participated in parts of Monday's practice. His status for Saturday's game at Oregon remains up in the air, Carroll said.

- Wideout Brice Butler didn't practice Monday because of tightness in his back, an injury suffered in the 42-36 win at the Coliseum over the weekend.

- Carroll announced that Ronald Johnson will resume kickoff return duties.
