Malcolm Smith, who Carroll called day-to-day while attempting to return from a sprained ankle suffered against Washington, is aiming to return to the starting lineup for this week's game at Cal. "He's determined to try to get back," Carroll said. Shane Horton or Luthur Brown would start in Smith's place if he can't return.
