- A short Matt Barkley completion to tight Blake Ayles on the final sudden-death play of the day gave the offense the 11-10 overall practice victory, as the Trojans kicked off the first game week of 2009 with an abbreviated, spirited workout. "We're officially into the game plan now," Coach Carroll said.
- Defensive lineman Averell Spicer returned to practice for the first time after spraining his ankle in the first week of Fall Camp.
- Billy O'Malley has won the punting job, Coach Carroll announced after practice.
- Coach Carroll, in the end-of-practice team huddle: "Let's make sure every day this week, we're stepping forward toward game day. Every day counts. Let's stay right on track and not miss a trick."
