After a battle that lasted throughout the spring and the recently completed training camp, senior Jordan Congdon has been named the starting field goal kicker for the season opener next Saturday, Coach Carroll announced today.
"The competition will remain open, but Jordan's performed very well during camp and he's won the job for the opener," Carroll said.
Following his sophomore season in 2006, Congdon transferred to USC from Nebraska, where he was a first-team All-American in 2005, making 19-of-23 field goals. He kicked a last-minute game-winner against Kansas State in 2005 that clinched a bowl berth for the Huskers.
After sitting out the 2007 and 2008 season, Congdon has beaten out fellow kickers Joe Houston and Jake Harfman for the field goal and extra point duties.
