One of Coach Carroll's heroes and mentors, John Wooden was named the greatest coach of all time by Sporting News Magazine this week.
Carroll has modeled some of his coaching philosophies after Wooden, who won 10 national championships in a 12-year stretch. This quote from one of Wooden's former players shows a key similarity between the two coaches.
"When I think of Coach Wooden, the first word that comes to mind is execution," said Gail Goodrich, who wrote an appreciation of his former coach in the latest issue of Sporting News. "We never worried about the opponent, only about how we were going to play."
