Julie Bescos, a legendary three-sport star at USC in the 1930s, passed away on Saturday in Long Beach. He was 97.
Inducted into the USC Athletic Hall of Fame earlier this month, Bescos earned eight letters while at USC: in football (1932-34), basketball (1932-34) and baseball (1932 and 1934). He also coached nine seasons for the USC football and basketball teams in the late '30s and early '40s.
A public memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on June 3 at Grace First Presbyterian Church, 3955 N. Studebaker Rd., Long Beach 90808. In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations be made to the Long Beach Cancer League.
