Coach Carroll just began Pro Day 2009 with a 15-minute introductory meeting in Heritage Auditorium, during which he gave a short snapshot/marketing presentation on all 17 players participating in today's workouts. Here are some highlights from his talk:
- On linebacker Clay Matthews: "He's the best special teams guy we've ever seen here. He's a hell of a football player."
- On linebacker Brian Cushing: "He's been an outside linebacker his whole career but you could easily put him at inside backer."
- On linebacker Kaluka Maiava: "If you ask all our guys, they all think he's the toughest player here by far."
- On safety Kevin Ellison: "He's a leader and everyone looks up to him and thinks he's a stud. He's a middle-of-a-career football player for you right now."
- On wideout Patrick Turner: "As a senior, he had a great year. He really blossomed."
- On quarterback Mark Sanchez: "I love this kid. He's an awesome guy with a great head on his shoulders, he studies his butt off, he's a competitor and he's just a terrific all-around athlete."
