And every once in a while, a gem arrives, bringing everyone hours of entertainment and joy.
One instance of that has come in the form of a three-ring binder containing 197 trading cards of seemingly every Trojan that has played in the NFL in the last 50 years. It's a gift to Coach Carroll from Rod Poteete, a longtime Trojan fan and a high school teacher in Pahrump, Nev., who spent 20 years gathering the cards into a collection he values at around $100. The binder contains cards of notable USC alumni, both coaches and players, who have been in the NFL since the '60s, including legends such as Ron Yary and Jon Arnett and recent alums such as Steve Smith and Matt Leinart.
