Players aren't the only ones competing for their spot this spring.
The team of student equipment managers -- a group of volunteer undergrads who take care of all of the Trojans' equipment needs before, during and after practices -- is auditioning its newest members this spring. With five returners on the 12-man squad, 16 students are competing for only seven spots on the roster.
Cuts will be made at the conclusion of Spring Practice later this month.
"They try out for a place on the team just like the football players do," said football equipment coordinator Tino Dominguez, who coordinates the student manager program.
