Thoughts from Sunday's practice, through the eyes of USCRipsIt...
- The Trojan defense picked up where it left off in 2008 during the first intrasquad scrimmage of the spring with a dominating performance that included three takeaways, a touchdown and an overall suffocating effort in the 63-play game-like session. "It was a real nice day to battle and find our tempo," Coach Carroll told the team in the post-practice huddle.
- Linebacker Malcolm Smith had the play of the day when he scooped up a fumble, sprinted downfield and stiff-armed Mitch Mustain to the ground before gliding into the end zone after a 70-yard return.
- Wideout David Ausberry caught a six-yard touchdown pass, tailback Curtis McNeal ran for an 18-yard score and kicker Joe Houston nailed a 33-yard field goal for the other points in the scrimmage.
- Before the scrimmage, the Trojans conducted a normal set of practice periods, including a 7-on-7 period that saw several highlight plays. Aaron Corp went 5-for-5 on an array of passes, Matt Barkley went 3-for-3 and Garrett Green threw a 45-yard touchdown to Brice Butler, who streaked down the right sideline to catch the bomb. Also, linebacker Ross Cumming intercepted a pass during the 15-play period.

The Malcolm Smith play was awesome. It was great to see Mustain chasing him down but the stiff-arm was awesome. The defense dominated today. What a great turn out!!
