Sophomore Aaron Corp will open at quarterback in Saturday's end-of-spring scrimmage and be the starter through the summer and into Fall Camp, Coach Pete Carroll announced Tuesday afternoon.
"We have to name a starter for the spring game and Corp is in the lead at this point," Carroll said.
Though the decision, which was shared with the quarterbacks during Tuesday's meetings, sorts out the depth chart for the time being, Carroll emphasized that the announcement isn't a final one.
"We're going to carry the competition on through Fall Camp," Carroll said.
With Corp as the starter for the Trojan Huddle, newcomer Matt Barkley will be in the backup role after an impressive set of workouts this spring as a first-semester freshman.
"Matt had a great spring and was right there pushing for the job, but he just hasn't had enough time to learn everything," Carroll said. "But on the field, he played like a starter."
Junior Mitch Mustain will be slotted in the third quarterback position and "will continue to battle his way up," Carroll said.
